Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Friends of Richland Avenue School,

On behalf of the faculty and staff at Richland Avenue, we welcome you and your child to the 2010-2011 school year.  Richland is a Pre-K thru 6th grade Westside neighborhood school dedicated to high quality instruction, active parent involvement and a strong sense of community.

For the 2010-11 school year, we welcome Carolle Blackwell, Second grade Teacher in Rm. 14 and Aimee Ticho, Pre-School Collaborative Teacher in the EEC Room.  We are also pleased to welcome Wilma Sandoval, our School Nurse.  We look forward to the new staff joining our school team!

In keeping with Richland’s commitment to academic excellence, our school is dedicated to providing the following to ensure that every student reaches their highest potential:

  • Small school environment
  • Consistently rising API scores, +97 within the last three years!
  • Transitional Kindergarten program for students who aren’t quite ready for Kindergarten, but need more than a Pre-K program
  • Innovative, departmentalized program for Grades 4 – 6
  • Multiple SMART Board enabled classrooms
  • GATE education for gifted and high achieving students
  • Arts Education: Dance, Theatre, Visual Arts and Music.

As we embark on this school year, we will continue to use data to guide classroom instruction to ensure the academic needs of every student.  An important piece of our success is parent involvement.  I encourage each of you to take an active role in your child’s education and in our school community.

We look forward to our collaboration throughout the year as we work together to provide your child with an academically rigorous education.
